The harmonic balancer, also known as a crankshaft pulley, is mounted to the front of the crankshaft, it controls engine harmonics and engine vibrations. When the engine cylinders move up and down, they create torque that is transferred into the crankshaft, without the harmonic balancer offsetting the torque your engine would tear apart!
When installed the harmonic balancer (vibration damper) bolts are tightened to a specific torque and can only be fitted once. It is important to replace the harmonic balancer bolts whenever they are removed.
