The crankshaft position sensor sends a signal to the engine computer (ECU), it determines the crankshaft rotation speed to control ignition timing and fuel injection. If your car's sensor is faulty it may cause misfires, excessive engine vibrations and backfires from improper fuel and timing parameters. If your car doesn't start at all it is possible that the sensor has completely failed. Be sure to check and replace your crankshaft position sensor if required.
