I the headlight adjuster job on my e39. It took me a long while on the first headlight.
The shorter adjuster was slightly larger than the original one that came out. I didn’t realise until I was battling for a while.
I had to file down the locating slide to get it to fit into the headlight assembly.
Upon getting it to fit. While tightening the screw the headlight casing split. The external width also was too large.
The second headlight I filed down all of the aides and they fit fine
