The expansion tank mounting plate holds to the expansion tank to the radiator. Mounted into the mounting plate below the expansion tank is the automatic transmission oil cooler thermostat. Whenever the expansion tank is removed or replace the mounting plate can become damaged. When replacing the expansion tank it is recommended to also replace the mounting plate and transmission oil cooler thermostat.
The purpose of the transmission oil cooler thermostat is to control the flow of coolant through the transmission oil cooler. Suitable for car's with automatic transmission only. The thermostat can fail by being stuck open or closed.
