Without a properly functioning cooling system your car is at risk of overheating and potentially causing major engine damage. If you have any leaking or damaged coolant hoses replace them as soon as possible to avoid losing coolant and overheating your car's engine.
The coolant temperature sensor sends information to the engine computer about the temperature of the coolant. It also sends information to the temperature gauge on the dash and activates the radiator cooling fan. If your sensor is faulty it can cause the gauge to read incorrectly and potentially not warn you when your coolant temperature has become too high.
